Box Score

The Oswego State field hockey team avenged a tough weekend loss by recording a dominant 4-0 victory over St. John Fisher College Tuesday afternoon at South Athletic Field. The experienced Laker squad controlled the game from the opening whistle and never looked back. Four different Laker players contributed to the offensive effort
as Oswego State recorded 31 shots and improved to 6-9 on the season. With the loss, St. John Fisher fell to 1-11 in their first year of intercollegiate play.

Oswego State controlled the momentum of the game in the opening minutes and managed to take advantage against an inexperienced Cardinal squad. The first Laker goal came in the 21st minute when Ashley Fiorille (So., Pittsford, N.Y.) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season after deflecting a series of passes from Jess Felice (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) and Lindsey Spatola (Fr., Holbrook, N.Y.). Oswego State doubled its lead four minutes later as Taylor Stein (Jr., Endwell, N.Y.) deflected a Katie Mazuchowski (Sr., Tonawanda, N.Y.) shot.

The Lakers continued to press the Cardinal defense and the sister duo of Kelly and Courtney Collins (Fairport, N.Y.)  teamed up to give the home side a 3-0 lead. Kelly notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season on a pass from Courtney just minutes before the end of the first half.

The second half played out much like the first stanza with Oswego State controlling most of the offensive play. The Cardinals played Oswego State hard, but was unable to sustain any pressure on the Laker defense. Oswego State added to its lead in the 38th minute as Felice converted on a crossing pass from Collins.

The Cardinals were unable to find the back of the net on the day and the Lakers walked away with a 4-0 victory and goalkeeper Julie Janusz (Sr., Auburn, N.Y.) tallied her third shutout of the season after posting two saves.

Oswego State plays host to Cortland on Friday at 4 p.m. when the Lakers will honor their six seniors.
