Field Hockey Hangs On For Overtime Win Over Morrisville

Box Score

The sister tandem of Courtney and Kelly Collins (Fairport, N.Y.) provided the overtime heroics in a 5-4 victory for the Oswego State field hockey team over host Morrisville on Wednesday afternoon. Kelly Collins and Alyssa Hare (Jr., Middleport, N.Y.) paced the Laker offense, recording two goals each, and goalkeeper Julie Janusz (Sr., Auburn, N.Y.) making 10 saves. Oswego State (6-10, 2-4 SUNYAC) closes out the regular season on October 26 when it hosts Nazareth at 4 p.m.

Kelly Collins continued her hot streak as she registered two unassisted goals in the first six minutes of play to give the Lakers the early lead. The Mustang offense responded quickly with two goals less than two minutes later to even the score. The Mustangs continued to press the Laker defense as they took the lead in the 22nd minute on a rebound goal by Jamie Anderson.

The Lakers responded to the trio of Morrisville goals with a pair of their own before the end of the first half to take the 4-3 lead into the second half. Hare found the back of the net on a rebound from the center of the circle.  Six minutes later, she recorded her second goal on a crossing pass from Katie Mazuchowski (Sr., Tonawanda, N.Y.).

The second half played out evenly with both teams generating scoring chances with no result. The persistent Morrisville attack managed to even the score in the 62nd minute on a goal from inside the circle. Despite two penalty corners in the final two minutes of regulation, the Lakers were unable to connect for a goal.

Oswego State came out in the overtime period determined to come away victorious. The Lakers outshot Morrisville 6-0 in the extra frame, finding the back of the net in the 80th minute for the game-winning goal. Courtney Collins scored on a crossing pass from sister Kelly to seal the victory for the Lakers.

The win was the Lakers' first overtime victory in four attempts this season, and the ninth game decided by one goal.
