Liadka's Hat Trick Leads Women's Soccer Past Alfred 4-0

Forward Nikki Liadka (So., Liverpool, N.Y.) continued her hot start to the 2011 season, netting a hat trick as the Oswego State women's soccer team defeated Alfred University 4-0 on Sunday in the final game of the Alfred Tournament.

Liadka has scored five goals in two games so far this season and was named to the all-tournament team as a result for her efforts over the weekend. Defender/midfielder Bri Dolan (Fr., Fayetteville, N.Y.) was also named to the all-tournament team. Dolan registered eight shots on goal in the two games against Juniata College and Alfred.

Scoreless for more than 35 minutes, Liadka broke through for the Lakers' first goal of the game at 36:15. Liadka handled a pass from teammate Alexa Krebs (Sr., Massapequa, N.Y.) and beat Alfred goalkeeper Ashley Frazell for her third goal of the season.

The Lakers dominated the first half of play, outshooting the Saxons 13-1 and owned an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks. Oswego State led 1-0 at halftime. 

Oswego State dominated the second half much like the first, as Liadka struck again at 73:33 unassisted to give Oswego State a two-goal lead with less than 17 minutes remaining in regulation. 

The Lakers put the game out of reach with two goals in 1:21 to give Oswego State a four-goal advantage. Forward Kassie Kleine (Jr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) netted her first goal of the season unassisted at 84:03. A minute later Liadka capped off the game with her third goal of the game at 85:24, earning the team's first hat trick. Midfielder Britt Williams (Sr., Massapequa, N.Y.) assisted on Liakda's third goal. Liadka finished with 11 shots and six shots on goal. 

The Laker defense held Alfred shotless in the second half and limited the Saxons to just one shot on goal all game. Oswego State goalie Emily Varonier (Miller Place, N.Y.) finished with one save on one shot faced, earning her first shutout in a Laker uniform.  Frazell finished with 10 saves on 14 shots faced, taking the loss in net for the Saxons. 

Oswego State outshot Alfred 27-1 for the game and held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Lakers fired 14 shots on goal compared to Alfred's one. 

The Lakers improved to 2-0-0 with the victory, while the Saxons dropped to 0-2-0. Oswego State hosts its home opener against Hamilton College on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. at Laker Field.
