Men's Basketball Tops Geneseo, 63-49, to Stay Unbeaten in League Play

GENESEO, N.Y. - The second-longest conference winning streak in NCAA Division III remained in tact on Tuesday night as Oswego State (13-3, 9-0 SUNYAC) shot 52 percent from the floor and rolled to a 63-49 win at Geneseo (8-9, 6-4 SUNYAC).

The Knights entered the game as one of three teams tied for second in the standings, but a Sean Michele (Sr., East Rochester, N.Y.) three-pointer opened the game and the Lakers never let go of the lead.

Geneseo stayed within striking range during the first half, closing the gap to 17-16 with just over eight minutes left, but a balanced Laker scoring attack allowed the visitors to build a 31-23 lead at the half. Oswego State had just two three-pointers and three free throws in the half, but held the Knights to just nine field goals to earn its advantage.

Chris Gilkes (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) and Conor Monaghan (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the offense early in the second half as the lead grew to 37-25 within the first four minutes of the period.

From there, the defense kept the Knights in check, finishing off the 14-point victory, the largest Laker lead of the game.

Chad Burridge (Sr., Hannibal, N.Y.) led the Lakers with 19 points, four steals and two blocks, while Michele and Josh Delfino (Sr., Newfield, N.Y.) added 10 points each. Hayden Ward added 13 rebounds, while three Lakers, Michele, Gilkes and Monaghan, all had four assists.

Oswego State will try to extend its streak on Friday night when it travels to Plattsburgh for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
