OSWEGO, N.Y. - Nikki Liadka (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) ensured the seniors had a game to remember as she scored in overtime to help the Oswego State women's soccer team (6-9-0, 3-6-0 SUNYAC) down Cortland (8-4-4, 5-2-2 SUNYAC) 1-0 on Senior Day.
It was just the second win for the Lakers over the Red Dragons in program history, as they now sport a 2-21-0 overall record. Oswego State last defeated Cortland exactly eight years ago, 2-1, at home.
During the first period, both teams kept pace with each other.
Paige McCarthy (Jr., Marathon N.Y.) and
Bri Dolan (So., Fayetteville, N.Y.) both struck shots high, while
Bailey Waterbury (Fr., Plattsburgh, N.Y.) had a shot blocked. The Red Dragons took one shot in the period.

Cortland became more aggressive in the second half, outshooting the Lakers 9-1. However, the Lakers defense worked hard to keep the Red Dragons off the scoreboard. With less than a minute left in regulation, Amanda Margolis took a shot on net, but
Emily Varonier (Sr., Miller Place, N.Y.) made a save to send the game into overtime.
Just over two minutes into overtime, Liadka scored her eighth goal of the season on a long free kick that the goalie misplayed to seal the win for Oswego State.
Varonier made two saves in the win. Cortland goalie Taylor Hudson was untested before Liadka's goal, making no saves.
The Lakers honored their three seniors at the game.
Shelly Bateman,
Kassie Kleine and
Carly Olds all played their final conference game on Saturday.
The Lakers play again tomorrow against SUNY Cobleskill at 1 p.m. at Laker Field.
