NEW PALTZ, N.Y.- The Oswego State field hockey team (1-5, 0-1 SUNYAC) got out to a slow start that it was unable to overcome in Friday's 6-1 loss to New Paltz (4-2, 1-0 SUNYAC).
The scoring began at the 3:46 mark for the Hawks when Alicia Aragosa put one in from the right side to give them an early 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Danielle Conklin tipped one in from outside the circle for a 2-0 lead. Deirdre O'Neill rounded out the scoring in the first hald with her first marker of the 2012 campaign, when she received a pass on a penalty corner that was deflected off the goalie to put the Lakers in a three-goal disadvantage.
With the score now 5-0, the Lakers got on the board when
Michelle Ruskey (Sr., Deerfield, N.Y.) put a shot in from the right side on a nice pass by
Courtney Collins (So., Fairport N.Y.). This was the only goal the Lakers could muster up as Antonija Pjetri and Lauren Brennan posted four combined saves.
Grace Lombardi (Fr., Ossining, N.Y.) suffered the loss with one save and four goals in the first 28 minutes.
Nicole Moccaldi (Fr., East Islip, N.Y.) stopped four of the six shots she faced after coming into the game.
The Lakers look to get back in the win column Saturday against SUNYAC rival Oneonta at 1 p.m.
