Women's Soccer Uses Comeback to Beat Fredonia on Senior Day

BOX SCORE

Oswego, N.Y. – After SUNY Fredonia jumped out to a quick lead, the Oswego State women's soccer team came back and won 2-1 on Saturday for Senior Day.

Fredonia scored at 11:22 when Alexis Moreland received a pass through the box from Jordyn Ruston.

Oswego answered in the 28th minute when Bailey Waterbury scored an unassisted goal. The Lakers took the lead at 36:50 when Tia Segretto capitalized on a pass from Waterbury for the eventual game-winner.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Varonier made a huge save with 14:37 left in the game to keep the lead. Fredonia's Kristi Putzig shot from the top of the box, but Varonier was able to punch the ball over the crossbar. Solid defense in the second half allowed Oswego to secure the win.

Overall, Oswego outshot Fredonia 13-9 in the game. Three of these shots came from senior Nikki Liadka. Varonier finished her last regular season game at Laker Field with two saves in net.

The Lakers will begin their last road trip of the season next weekend, as they travel to SUNY Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles for a 3 p.m. SUNYAC faceoff on Friday.
