Geneseo, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead Saturday and defeated Geneseo 2-1 in a SUNYAC contest. The win clinches the Lakers a spot in the SUNYAC Championship that will begin on Saturday, November 2nd. It will be the first appearance for Oswego in the postseason affair since 2002. Seeding will be determined after next weekend's SUNYAC games, which include the Lakers taking on the Red Dragons of Cortland at 1 p.m. Saturday in a road contest.
Currently, Oswego is in a three-way tie for second place with Oneonta and Cortland, each sporting 15 points in conference play. The top-four seeds host a a SUNYAC Championship game.
Tia Segretto scored the first goal of the game in the 10
th minute with an assist from
Bailey Waterbury, the league-leader in assists. Segretto netted another goal just 10 minutes later, making the score 2-0.
Geneseo answered at 29:49 coming from Alexa Krebs, cutting the Lakers lead to one.
Oswego's defense was able to stall the Knights' comeback, however, holding for the final score of 2-1.
