BOX SCOREOSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey teams slid past Nazareth College 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a rain soaked contest at Laker South Athletic Field. With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-7 on the year while the Golden Flyers fall to 4-11.
Oswego scored one goal in each period, with
Ashley Collins being a part of both scoring situations. With less than eight minutes to play in the first half, Collins received a penalty corner pass at the top of the arc. She immediately sent a pass through the middle of the defense to find teammate
Rachel Johnston on the far left post. Johnston found the back of the goal after collecting the pass, scoring the eventual game-winner to put the Lakers up 1-0.
In the 64th minute, Collins was at it again, this time scoring off a penalty corner opportunity.
Ashley Fiorille took a penalty corner and sent a pass to Collins, again sitting atop the arc. This time, however, the senior decided to fire a shot rather than look to distribute. The decision proved wise as the rip found the back of the net.
Oswego goaltender
Priscilla Paulose earned the win between the pipes, saving three Nazareth attempts.
Jackie Lowenstein also came up with a defensive save which, at the time, preserved a one-goal Laker advantage.
The field hockey team will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Oneonta in a SUNYAC contest.
