BOX SCOREOSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team honored five seniors for Senior Day in a 2-1 loss to SUNY New Paltz on Saturday.
Rachel Johnston,
Ashley Fiorille,
Ayla Homer,
Ashley Collins and
Heather Jennings were all recognized before the game at Laker South Athletic Field.
With the loss, Oswego falls to 8-5 on the year and 1-4 in conference play.
The Hawks scored both goals in the first half, both from Dani Ackerman. One came at 3:06 and the second at 25:40.
The Lakers made a comeback early in the second half when
Lisa O'Callaghan scored off of a rebound of her own saved goal at 46:47.
Oswego had a great opportunity coming off a penalty corner with under three minutes to play.
Sam Perez took the corner and sent it to
Courtney Collins who dished it to
Jackie Lowenstein. Lowenstein took a hard shot past the goalie but another Hawk was there to make a heartbreaking defensive save.
The rally was stalled there, and New Paltz sealed the 2-1 victory.
The Lakers will play in their last regular season game at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Oneonta, as the two squads make up a game that was postponed on Friday.
