Canton, N.Y. -- The Oswego State men's basketball team went on a 13-2 run in overtime to defeat St. Lawrence University 90-84 on the road in Burkman Gymnasium. Oswego improves to 3-1 on the season with four reaching double figures in scoring, led by
Brian Sortino's 21 points and
Mark Candelario's 20 points.Â

Oswego, which led 41-36 at the half, stretched their lead to 43-36 on a layup from
Daniel Ross at the start of the second half stanza. The Saints fought back, however, taking the lead on Kyle Edwards' jumper with 12:11 remaining in the half.Â

The Saints would hold a six-point lead thanks to key buckets by Payton Stahler with 5:35 to go, but back-to-back layups by
Daniel Ross and
Mark Candelario made it a 2-point game, 70-68, with 3:37 to play in regulation.Â

Oswego would retake the lead on free throws from Sortino with 2:08 remaining, up 73-71, and held that same advantage at 77-75 thanks to a lay-in from Candelario with :07 seconds remaining.Â

A foul by Oswego with 1.7 seconds left sent Janpeter Brase to the free throw line. He knocked down both free throws to send the game to overtime.

Alex Rawa gave Oswego an 82-79 lead midway through overtime with a three-pointer. The key stretch came seconds later, as Kyle Kobis missed a three-pointer that would have tied the game, only to see
Kyle Covley drain a three-pointer with the shot clock winding down to give Oswego an 87-81 lead with :41 seconds remaining. The clutch basket was enough to allow Oswego to earn the overtime victory, 90-84.Â

Sortino was 12-of-13 from the free throw line as he scored 21 points and added three assists. Candelario was very efficient from the floor, shooting 10-for-12 for 20 points and bringing down 10 rebounds.Â
Daniel Ross and
Kyle Covley scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Oswego, and combined for nine rebounds.Â

St. Lawrence and Oswego exchanged points in the early going, and then Brady Condlin gave the Saints a six point lead with a three-pointer at 13:27. Kyle Edwards would extend his team's lead to nine with a three-pointer of his own at 10:58, but the Lakers went on a 12-6 run over the next several minutes to cut to within one point (25-24), with
Mark Candelario scoring six of his team's 12 in that span. Â

Al Jones gave St. Lawrence a 28-24 lead on a three-pointer with 6:28 left in the first half, but the Lakers finally broke through to take the lead as
Daniel Ross made a free throw and then later converted on a layup after making a steal at the 3:36 mark.Â

Oswego outscored St. Lawrence 10-6 to close the half as
Brian Sortino scored eight of his nine first half points in the finals minutes, including six free throws. Candelario had 12 first-half points, while
Kyle Covley added ten as the Lakers took a 41-36 lead at the half.Â
