Geneva, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team lost 8-1 in its season opener at William Smith College against the No. 10 Herons Friday.
The Herons jumped out to a 5-0 lead before
Cassie Langone scored her first goal of the season from the on top of the left post at 26:57.
Ashley Fiorille assisted on Langone's goal.
The Herons added two goals to their lead in the second. William Smith's Melanie O'Connor scored twice for the Herons, with one goal in each period.
Oswego made a total of 12 saves for the game.
Grace Lombardi had eight saves in the first half, while
Priscilla Paulose stopped four attempts in the second.
The Lakers will return to action when they travel to Ithaca College for a 4 p.m. game against the Bombers on Wednesday.
