OSWEGO, N.Y. –
Josh Yager lifted the Oswego State men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory against Potsdam at home on Friday afternoon. Yager's goal came off a long throw-in by
Eric Widanka in the final minute of the overtime. The senior's pass landed close to the far post for Yager to tap it in with just 33.9 seconds left on the clock.
With the win, Oswego improves to 1-1-1 in SUNYAC play and 2-6-2 overall while the Bears drop to 1-1-0, 6-4-1.
After playing a scoreless first half, the Lakers struck first. At 62:17,
Connor Lunduski ripped a volley shot from the right side above the box past the Potsdam goalkeeper and into the upper-left 90.
Just over 14 minutes later, the Bears notched the equalizer as Alex Minsker dribbled past a defender to create an opportunity that barely beat
Todd Lawson low as he sprinted out to try and stop the ball.
The two teams played the final 12 minutes without a score, setting up the dramatic overtime finish.
Lawson collected four saves in net for Oswego, earning his second win of the season.
The squad will return to SUNYAC play at 1 p.m. on Saturday as it hosts Plattsburgh as part of Alumni Weekend.
