BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team lost a close 2-1 overtime battle to Brockport in the Play-In game of the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday night at Bob Boozer Stadium in Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium. Third-seeded Brockport (10-2-6) advances to the semifinals to face No. 2 Cortland on Wednesday while the sixth-seeded Lakers end the year with a 5-11-2 mark.
Oswego took an unlucky bounce in the first half, as the only goal came on an own goal when a Laker defender slipped on the slick turf and headed the ball into his own net. Brockport was able to take that 1-0 advantage into the locker room at half.
The Lakers would not go easily as
Nick Zingaro notched his second goal of the year at 69:31 to knot the game at one goal apiece. Zingaro capitalized on a turnover by the Golden Eagles in their own 18-yard box.
Neither team was able to score the game-winner over the final 20 minutes of play, setting the scene for two 10-minute, golden goal overtimes. Brockport was able to score first to grab the victory as David Rougeux cashed in a short pass from Peter DiLorenzo at 94:08.
Laker goalkeeper
Todd Lawson had a solid outing between the pipes, tying his career-high for saves in a game with 11.
