OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball dropped its home- and season-opener 67-61 to D'Youville College in the first round of the Max Ziel Tournament on Saturday evening in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
With the loss, Oswego will face Bay Path College at 12 p.m. on Sunday in the consolation round while the Spartans advance to the championship game at 4:30 p.m. against SUNY Cobleskill.
In the first half, Oswego got off to a hot start, forcing D'Youville to call a timeout after an early 15-6 run. Junior
Heather Hebert led the Lakers offense with 12 first-half points, sending the squad to the locker room with a 35-31 advantage.
The Spartans came out of halftime and went on a 9-0 run to gain a slight edge over Oswego, 40-35. Oswego was able to knot the game twice over the final 16:01 but was never able to regain the lead.
Hebert wound up leading the Lakers on offense, finishing with a team-high 19 points. Her 19 points was just one-point shy of a career-high as Hebert scored 20 against Hamilton College on Nov. 20, 2013. The junior also tied for a team-high on the glass, collecting 10 boards along with
Rachael Windhausen. Hebert's double-double was the fourth of her career at Oswego.
Windhausen missed a double-double by just two points, tallying eight in her collegiate debut.
