OSWEGO, N.Y. – The fifth-seeded Oswego State volleyball team lost to No. 4 Brockport in the quarterfinals of the SUNYAC Championship at New Paltz on Friday evening. With the loss, the team concludes its season with a 19-15 mark.
The Lakers played a back-and-forth match that took all five games to decide. Brockport took an early lead, defeating the Lakers 25-10. Oswego rallied in the second though, putting together a 10-3 run to earn the 26-24 victory. Brockport took the third by a score of 25-16 but the Lakers rallied once again in the fourth game. This time Oswego strung together a 9-3 run to nab a 25-23 victory and force the decisive fifth set. In the final set, the Golden Eagles controlled play and won 15-9.
Oswego spread its offense out all match, with
Jessica Long recording a team-high 11 kills. Adding on to Long's kills were
Kelsey Dillon and
Meaghan Roefs, who each had 10.
Setting duties were split as
Olivia Zimmerman and
Lauren Edwards registered 25 and 17 assists, respectively.
On defense,
Rachael Ruggaber controlled the back line, securing a season-high 33 digs to outdo her previous best by one. Also pitching in were
Mary Montagnola with 15 and Edwards with 13.
Brockport advances to face top-seeded host New Paltz at 6 p.m. while Buffalo State, who defeated Cortland earlier on Friday, will face No. 2 Fredonia at 3 p.m.
