Jacobs Paces Lakers in First SUNYAC Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team downed the visiting Fredonia Blue Devils 71-58 on Friday at Max Ziel Gymnasium. Following tonight's win, the Lakers sit at 2-3 on the season and also take home a victory in the SUNYAC-opener.

The majority of the first half belonged to Oswego as forward Rachael Windhausen got her team on the scoreboard with a layup in the first minute of play.

Teammate Alisha Jacobs would take over after that, scoring the next 11 points to secure a 13-8 lead. The Hogansburg native capped a 27-16 run when she sunk a three-pointer from the right wing, drawing the foul and completing the rare four-point play.

The 5-foot-8 guard continued to fill up the stat sheet throughout the contest, finishing the night with a career-high 23 points while chipping in six rebounds to go along with three steals.

Lindsay Johnson contributed to the Lakers first-half surge with 10 points, getting a layup to go with just seconds left on the clock before heading into the locker room with a 35-24 advantage.

In the second half, Oswego picked up exactly where it left off with its offensive prowess. Heather Hebert,Windhausen and Johnson all finished with 13, 12, and 11 points, respectively.

A 12-rebound advantage for the Lakers, along with an 85% (17-of-20) free-throw shooting performance helped the squad cruise past the Blue Devils. Among the team's top rebounders were Johnson and Alison Nunziato, each corralling eight boards apiece.

The Lakers will return to action to host a conference battle against Buffalo State at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
