Fredonia, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team lost 68-66 to Fredonia on a buzzer-beater in overtime. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 12-7 overall and 6-6 in the conference while the Blue Devils improve to 5-14, 2-10.
Kyle Covley made his first of two free throws with 23.4 seconds left in the extra period to knot the score at 66-66. Fredonia decided to try and take the last shot but Covley forced a contested shot off a spin move that only found the left-side of the backboard.
Oswego surrendered the offensive rebound off the missed attempt and Blue Devil Alexander Grace quickly turned and fired a shot that found the bottom of the net as time expired.
With just over a minute left in the overtime,
Daniel Ross sank a 3-pointer to tie the game at 65-65.
The game featured nine ties and seven lead changes as the largest lead of the contest was Oswego by seven. Fredonia never led by more than four. The Lakers out-rebounded the Blue Devils 43-32 in the contest but allowed 23 points off their 14 turnovers.
Ross finished with a team-high 27 points while
Rashawn Powell finished with another double-double, scoring 15 points while collecting 12 boards.
Mark Candelario also finished with double-figure rebounds, gathering 11 caroms.
Oswego will be back on the hardwood at 8 p.m. on Tuesday as it hosts Oneonta in a SUNYAC tilt.
