BOX SCORE
Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball took a 63-51 loss to Oneonta at home on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 6-14 overall and 2-11 in conference play while the Red Dragons improve to 15-5, 9-4.
Oswego trailed 25-19 at the half but made things interesting in the opening minutes of the second period.
Lauren Nunziato found her sister,
Alison Nunziato, on the first play of the new half for a wide open 3-pointer that she drained. On the very next play, the younger Nunziato returned the favor, assisting on the game-tying trey, knotting the score at 25-25 and forcing an Oneonta timeout.
The timeout would not cool L. Nunziato's shooting touch, however, as she drilled a mid-range jumper to give the Lakers its first lead, 27-25, since the opening moments of the game. Oswego and Oneonta would squabble back-and-forth for the next few minutes, with the Red Dragons pulling away down the stretch.
Jenn Robbins tied for the game-high with 17 points while
Heather Hebert chipped in 10 of her own. The Lakers were led on the glass by
Haley Witchella's game-high typing eight boards. Hebert and
Paula Egelston were both active in rebounds, both collecting five in the effort.
Oswego will return to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday when Cortland comes to Max Ziel Gymnasium for the Lakers' Senior Night.
