Cortland, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team shutout Cortland for the second-straight day, achieving victory 2-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. Oswego's win improves its overall record to 14-6-1 and its ECAC West mark to 8-3-1 while the Red Dragons fall to 2-17-1, 1-10-1.
Oswego got all it would need in the second minute of the game, as
Emma Smetaniuk tallied a goal off passes from
Melissa Seamont and
Olivia Boersen. The next 58:01 were played in scoreless fashion until the Lakers added an insurance goal late in the final period.
After the Red Dragons were penalized for slashing at 17:59, Seamont cruised in for a power-play goal at 19:07.
Chelsea Hunt and
Leslie Jarvis earned assists on the play, giving Seamont a two-point game and securing the victory for Oswego.
Tori Trovato earned her second start of the weekend, proving her worth with another shutout against the Red Dragons. Trovato stopped all 15 shots she faced on the afternoon, improving her season record to 5-2-0 with her team-best fourth shutout.
The Lakers outshot Cortland by a staggering 25-shot margin (40-15) while winning 11 more faceoffs (26-15). Cortland was whistled for eight penalties in the contest, equating to 27 minutes in the sin bin. Oswego spent 10 minutes in the penalty box for five minors.
Next weekend, Oswego and Utica will play a home-and-home series, starting with a 2:30 p.m. contest at Utica on Saturday before a 4 p.m. tilt at the Campus Center on Sunday.
