Women's Soccer Loses to Westfield State

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Oswego State women's soccer team lost its season-opener 1-0 to Westfield State College in the first round of the Rutland Herald Invitational hosted by Castleton State College on Saturday afternoon.

In the first half, Kate Matroni notched the lone goal of the game. The Owls' forward received a pass from Ashleigh Chretien and chipped it over Alyssa Glasshagel from 18-yards out, giving Westfield State a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.

Oswego gained some offensive momentum near the end of the first half when it had two shots saved by the Owls' keeper Anne Stack.

The Lakers continued their attacking display after the break, as they had two shots in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half.

In the 88th minute, Oswego nearly tied the game when Bri Dolan's corner resulted in a shot on goal by Emma Geyer, but Stack was able to make the save.

The Lakers will be back in action for the consolation game at 12 p.m. on Sunday versus Rutgers-Camden.
