BOX SCOREFREDONIA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team took a tough 2-1 loss to the University of Mount Union in the Blue Devil/Clarion Classic hosted by Fredonia on Friday afternoon. After the loss, the Laker's record drops to 1-2 on the season while the Raiders improve to 2-0.
Oswego held an advantage in shots throughout the contest, including a 15-4 margin in the first half, but still trailed 1-0 at the break. Mount Union's Kolbie Haines scored a goal in the 7th minute as she received a pass and dribbled past her defender, chipping the ball over the goalie for a score.
Jo Klein had one of Oswego's best opportunities in the opening period but the Mount Union goalie made her best stop of the contest to preserve a 1-0 edge heading into halftime.
The Lakers would even the game in the 53rd minute, as
Tia Segretto sent a ball through to
Nicole Perniciaro, who settled the ball on her foot and tapped it past the goalkeeper.
With time running out in the game, the Raiders scored the game-winner as a shot trickled past the Lakers' keeper and was nearly saved by a defender rushing the goal line. Katie Malenic was the scorer on the play while Kaie Goedecke earned an assist.
The Lakers finished the day with 15 more shots than their opponent.
Oswego will wrap up play in the tournament at 5 p.m. on Saturday when it faces Medaille College.
