Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lakers Continue SUNYAC Streak With OT Win

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team defeated Brockport 91-85 in overtime on the road Tuesday evening.  With the win, the Lakers remain unbeaten in the conference (5-0) and go to 9-3 on the year. Brockport falls to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

The Lakers got off to a good start, shooting 54.5% (18-33) from the field in the first half. Ian Schupp helped fuel the offensive hitting all three of his field goal attempts, which included two three pointers. The Lakers were able to enter half time with a 40-31 lead over the Golden Eagles.

In the second half, Oswego seemed to still be in control, never allowing Brockport take the lead. The Lakers led by as many as 12 points with under ten to go. The Golden Eagles battled though, cutting the Oswego lead to three points with only 36 seconds left in regulation.  They began to play a substitution game and it worked, as they tied it up at 78 a-piece on a fast break lay-up with only 3 seconds to go.

With momentum against them, Oswego persevered, continuing to not give Brockport any type of lead. Matt Crockett came up big off the bench, scoring seven points in the overtime period. The Lakers' defense was able to hold off any Golden Eagle threat and ended the game on top.

Sortino led all scorers on the court, cashing in 20 points for the Lakers. The sophomore also helped on the boards, fetching eight rebounds. Rashawn Powell ended the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds, giving him his third double-double of the year. Crockett ended the game with a season high 12 points to go along with eight boards.

Men's basketball returns to the court at 5:30 p.m. on Friday for a road bout against Plattsburgh.
