OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team downed Brockport 66-51 Tuesday evening in the Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the win, Oswego is now 11-4 overall and holds a 7-1 conference record, the best since the 2011-12 season. Brockport moves to 6-8 on the year and under .500 in the SUNYAC (3-4)
.
Defense played a key factor for the Lakers, as they held the Golden Eagles off the board for the first 4:27 of the game. The offense couldn't quite build a big enough lead though and Brockport was able to tie it at 27 going into the intermission.
Rashawn Powell was Oswego's main source of offense as he led the team going into half with seven points.
The Lakers came into the second half with much more offensive prowess, improving their first half field goal percentage of 31.4 percent to 48.0.
Kyle Covley was able to knock down a couple three's and come away with 24 points in total. Powell didn't let up either, recording another double-double, his fourth of the year. Also hitting double-digits was
Walter Sampson who came away with 14 points at the end of the night.
Oswego also continued to show up on defense, not allowing Brockport to hit a three the entire game (0-11). The squad also forced 11 turnovers on the Golden Eagles.
Men's basketball gets the weekend off, not returning to the court until 5:30 on Saturday, January 30, as it travels to New Paltz to take on the Hawks.
