OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team fell 5-2 to Cortland on Senior Day, which also happened to be the team's final home game of the 2015 season. With the loss, the Lakers move to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Cortland improves to 11-4 on the year, 6-0 in the SUNYAC.
An even match for the first 27 minutes, Cortland was finally able to break the tie. The Red Dragons scored on a scrum in the middle of the box, notching a 1-0 lead with just 7:47 left in the half. Cortland would spring for another goal before halftime, taking a 2-0 lead into the lead into the locker room.
The Red Dragons scored two more early in the second before Oswego finally broke onto the score sheet.
Grace Rinaldi maneuvered the ball to the near post where she sent a pass across the goal mouth to
Bri Sturdevant. The freshman wasted no time firing a shot into the open net, scoring her second goal of the year.
Rinaldi would nab an assist on the second goal as well, as she sent a mirror-image pass to
Jordan Sheehy who sent the ball into the open goal.
Sarita Charap played 62:08 in net for the Lakers, recording 10 saves. She was then relieved by senior
Grace Lombardi, who grabbed four saves of her own.
Field Hockey will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as it travels to Geneseo for its last SUNYAC matchup of the year.
