Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lakers Bound for Postseason Following Win

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team clinched the sixth seed in the SUNYAC Championship with its 2-1 victory at Cortland on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers are now 8-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the conference while the Red Dragons drop to 5-11, 1-8. The SUNYAC Championship will begin on Oct. 31 when the Lakers travel to Geneseo to face the third-seeded Knights.

Freshman Audrey Burbidge scored the eventual game-winner in the upper left corner of the goal just over five minutes into the second half. The goal, Burbidge's third of the season, was assisted by classmate Ariah Rosos and put the Lakers up 2-0.

Oswego notched the game's first goal at 22:19 when Sarah Grupp was awarded a penalty kick. The sophomore capitalized on the opportunity, burying her fifth tally of the year.

Cortland would try for a late comeback, recording at goal in the 70th minute, but the Lakers warded off any further threats to secure the victory and playoff berth.

Laker goalie Melissa Siegfried made two stops in net, earning her sixth win of the season.

As a team, Oswego outshot Cortland 15-11, including 6-3 in shots-on-goal.

The squad will close out the regular season with a nonconference matchup at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Hamilton College.
