Lakers Fall Short On Career Night For Dillard

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team dropped a close contest, 71-68, in overtime to Wells College Friday evening in the Max Ziel Tournament. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 0-2 on the season while the Express improve to 3-0.
 
With just 21 seconds remaining in overtime, Courtney Ameele buried a trey from the right corner to tie the game up at 68. The 3-pointer added to her career-high point total of 25 for the game. The sophomore started off the contest with the hot hand, nailing her first three shots from the field.
 
Zana Dillard led all players with a career-high 24 rebounds, destroying her previous high of nine boards in a game. She notched 11 points on 50% (5-for-10) shooting for her first career double-double.
 
In the final eight minutes of regulation, Wells went on a 12-8 run forcing an overtime situation. Both teams traded baskets for most of the extra period and found themselves knotted three separate times.
 
Mary Mazzella contributed with 13 points, five assists and seven rebounds on the evening.
 
Kayla Tucek added eight points on 4-for-7 shooting in the game.
 
Oswego will play Alvernia University in the consolation game of the tournament on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. Wells College will face off with the Houghton College Highlanders in the championship contest following the third-place tilt.
