CLINTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team edged Hamilton College 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Continentals' Sage Arena. The win improves the Lakers overall record to 5-2-2 as Oswego is currently on a three-game win streak. Hamilton moves to 1-2-0 on the year.
With the score tied at 1-1 after two periods of play, it was a freshman defender who came in clutch for the Lakers in the third. The scoring chance began when
Brianna Rice found herself in battle for the puck behind the net in Oswego's offensive zone. The Newmarket, Ont. eventually won the scrum and passed it to
Amy Templeman who one-timed it past the netminder for her first point of her collegiate career. The goal would prove to be the game-winner as Oswego held Hamilton off the score sheet for the remainder of the period.
Oswego's first tally came from Rice as she nabbed her third of the year, scoring on a rebound 14:13 into the game.
Rachel Lenard was credited with the assist on the goal, pushing her to third on the team in overall points (6).
Mariah Madrigal played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Lakers, recording 23 saves on the day.
Women's ice hockey will have the upcoming weekend off as the team returns to action at 3 p.m. on Dec. 4 hosting the Neumann Nights.
