OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team defeated New Paltz 72-49 Tuesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The win improves the Lakers record to 7-14 on the season and 4-9 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz drops to 16-5 overall, 10-4 in the conference.
The Lakers came right out of the gate, imposing a 19-4 run in the first 6:27 of the game. The run was headed by
Alisha Jacobs and
Heather Hebert, who had six and five points, respectively. Oswego continued to push throughout the half, taking a 26-42 lead into half. The second half proved to be more of the same, as the Lakers never allowed the Hawks to gain any momentum. At the eight minute mark, Jacobs hit a pair of free-throws, spurring a 14-3 run that would eventually end the game.
Hebert dominated in all aspects of the score sheet, recording a double-double through the first half. The Hilton native ended the game with 19 boards, 16 points and five assists. Jacobs and
Mary Mazzella reached double-figures in points as well, knocking in 19 and 13, respectively.
Lindsay Johnson pitched in too, scoring nine and hauling in four rebounds.
Women's basketball returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday as it hosts the Potsdam Bears.
