Lakers Fall to Geneseo in Low Scoring Battle

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team fell 59-55 to Geneseo Tuesday evening at Max Ziel Gymnasium. This is only the third SUNYAC loss for the Lakers, dropping them to 8-3 in the conference and 12-6 overall. Geneseo improves to 6-5 in the SUNYAC and 10-8 on the season.

It was a slow paced game, as both teams struggled from the field in the first few minutes. Brian Sortino got things going for the Lakers though, as he hit a 3-pointer with 11:47 left, putting in motion a seven point run for Oswego. The lead didn't last long as Geneseo clawed its way back, taking a 30-28 lead into the half.

The game was close from then on, with neither team taking more than a five point lead. With the Knights up by five with 34 seconds left in regulation, Ian Schupp hit a three with time expiring on the shot clock. The Lakers were unable to find another basket though and Geneseo hit its foul shots to close out the game.

Schupp led all Lakers with 14 points, just two shy of his career best. Alex Rawa also pitched in, scoring 10 points on the night. Mark Candelario showed his presence underneath, leading the team with eight rebounds.

Men's basketball will return to the court at 5:30 p.m. on Friday as they travel to Fredonia to take on the Blue Devils.
