CLERMONT, Fla – The Oswego State softball team split its SUNYAC doubleheader against Plattsburgh in Clermont, Fla. on Sunday morning. The Lakers were able to better the Cardinals 8-4 in the first matchup, before falling 5-0 in the days second game. Oswego moves to 1-3 (1-1 SUNYAC) on the young season, while Plattsburgh goes to 2-2 (1-1 SUNYAC).
Game 1
Ashley Lyman provided a flurry of offense at the plate for Oswego, going 4-4 in the game and recording six RBI. The Lockport native started off right away, homering in three runs in the first inning. Later, Lyman struck again, this time doubling in two runs in the top of the third. She would earn her sixth RBI in the final inning singling home
Katie Heselden.
Oswego's other two runs came off of a two-run homer supplied by
Tori Trovato in the fourth.
Lisa O'Callaghan pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits. The junior also notched seven strikeouts during her time on the hill.
Game 2
Trovato swung well at the plate again in the team's second game of the day against Plattsburgh. The Fulton native batted .667 (2-for-3), including a double in the top of the third. Heselden and
Melanie Klauser both finished the day going 1-for-3 with a stolen base as well. It wasn't enough though as Oswego still fell to the Cardinals 5-0.
The softball team will return to action at 1 p.m. on Monday as it takes on Washington & Jefferson College. Oswego will then turn around and play UMass Boston at 3 p.m. on the same day.
