Lange's Late Goal Squashes Canton Comeback

CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team survives a late comeback attempt and defeats SUNY Canton 14-13. With the win, the Lakers improve move to above .500 (4-3) on the season. Canton falls to 3-2 overall.

It was Emily Lange who scored the game-winning goal with 1:43 left in regulation, stopping a six-goal run put up by the Kangaroos and helping Oswego capture its fourth victory of the year.

The Lakers never trailed the entire game, tallying nine goals in the first half while holding Canton to six. Oswego continued to add to its lead scoring three more early in the second stanza, hoping to close out the game with a healthy lead. The 'Roos clawed back though, scoring six unanswered to tie the game up at 13 a-piece with 5:55 in regulation. Lange's goal would be the deciding factor though and the Lakers were able to take a 14-13 win home to Oswego.

Erannan Shattuck followed up her last performance with one equally as impressive, posting four goals and five assists for a career-high nine points. Also recording multiple-goal games for the Lakers were Lange and Henderson, who each nabbed three on the day. Briana Kimble, Gemma O'Kane, Esther Gabriel and Lindsey Eggers all netted one goal as well.

Draws were a major factor in the day's win as Oswego controlled seven more than the Kangaroos (18-11). Leading the way was Gabriel who had eight, followed by Lange who had six.

Nicole Granteed, Angela Ponto, O'Kane and Gabriel all had a team-high four ground balls during the contest.

Ponto played all sixty minutes between the pipes for the Lakers, recording seven saves.

Women's lacrosse will return to action at noon on Saturday as the team will play a neutral site game at Fayette-Manlius High School against Oneonta.
