CORNING, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team used a first-half offensive explosion to cruise to a 16-6 victory over Elmira College on Tuesday afternoon at Corning Community College. With the win, the Lakers moved back over .500 (4-3) while the Soaring Eagles drop to 1-5.
Oswego scored the game's first 11 goals while holding Elmira scoreless for nearly the whole first half, not allowing a Soaring Eagles' goal until there was 3:33 to go in the second period. The Lakers were able to tally one more goal before the break, taking a 12-1 advantage to the locker room.
In the second half, Elmira scored first but Oswego strung together three goals to end the third period. During the final 15 minutes, the Lakers added one more before the final horn sounded for a 16-6 triumph.
On the day, 12 different Lakers notched goals, including
Cody Hoose,
Nick Giampaolo,
Brandon Dzwonkowski and
Jimmy Cordon each had a team-high two goals. The rest of the Oswego goals came from
Connor Khammar,
Luke Krizman,
Tyler Nason,
Sean Biggie,
Tom Herbert,
Troy Crevier,
James Lennon and
Adam Burlew, all scoring one goal apiece.
Hoose filled the stat sheet, registering a game-high six points with his two goals and four assists.
Crevier was nearly perfect at the X, winning 9-of-10 faceoff chances.
Chase Izyk took the rest of the Lakers faceoffs, taking a win in more than half of his opportunities (9-of-16). Izyk and Giampaolo led the squad with four ground balls each. Giampaolo also paced Oswego in caused turnovers, tying teammate
Dylan Davanzo with a team-high two.
Wyatt Russo earned the victory in net, making five saves in three quarters of action.
Kevin LaMantia played the final 15 minutes, making three saves during the period.
Oswego will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Alfred State in a neutral-site contest at Cazenovia College.
