VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Oswego State baseball team (2-0) defeated No. 13 Rowan University (0-2) in both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Marlins Field on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College.

GAME ONE -- Oswego 3, Rowan 0:

Oswego got on the board early with a two runs in the first three innings. In the first,
Myles Kutscher laced a pitch down the right-field line to drive in
Brian Hamilton from second.
Â
Brendyn Karinchak (1-0) needed only one run; he allowed just four hits over eight innings pitched. The senior dominated the Owls' lineup, adding eight strikeouts in an impressive first win of the season.

With the Lakers threatening in the third inning,
Eric Hamilton skied a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in
Dan Saccocio. Saccocio scored two runs, including an insurance run in the eighth.

Wes Randall led off the game with an infield hit before leaving with a hand injury.
Eli Holton replaced Randall and collected a single and a double in his first collegiate game. The freshman also earned a walk in the contest.

Pat Brown collected two strikeouts in a perfect ninth inning to collect his first save of the season.
Â
Ryan Easterday (0-1) took the loss for Rowan; he allowed two earned runs over seven innings of work.

GAME TWO -- Oswego 10, Rowan 2:

Oswego continued its offensive outburst early and often in the second game of the doubleheader. Saccocio started off the contest with a base hit to center field. Saccocio proceeded to steal second before Hamilton singled him in.
Â
Saccocio recorded three hits in game two and scored four more runs, also stealing two bases. Hamilton added three hits of his own, including two RBI and a run.

In the third inning,
Myles Kutscher doubled to the base of the left field fence, driving in E. Hamilton and
Brian Hamilton. In the following inning,
Brian Hamilton doubled to the same spot and drove in
Kyle Simmons and
Alex Brown to give the Lakers a 6-0 lead.

Nick Juliano was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, over 3.1 innings. Matt Nelson allowed four runs in 4.2 innings of relief.

Kutscher punished the Owls' pitching again in the sixth inning with a long single bringing in Saccocio and Simmons. The sophomore went 3-for-5 and drove in four in game two.

Miles Kelly rolled through six innings before facing resistance from Rowan in the seventh and eighth innings. Kelly plunked two batters in the seventh and loaded the bases, but he was able to get out of the frame with minimal damage. Kelly allowed two runs and struck out seven in eight innings of work.

Oswego got a run right back after letting an Owls' run in the top of the eighth, nothing a run in the bottom half of the inning when Saccocio scored on another E. Hamilton single.

John-Michael Guarino struck out the side in order in the top of the ninth to clinch the victory for Oswego.

The Lakers will be back in action Sunday for another doubleheader against the Rowan Owls. Game one will begin at 11 a.m. with game two following shortly after game one's completion.
