Oswego Earns Split With Oneonta

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego State baseball team split a doubleheader with the Oneonta Red Dragons Sunday afternoon at Laker Baseball Field. Oswego won the first game 7-5, before dropping the second 6-2. The Lakers are now 18-6 and 11-2 in the conference.

Game One: Oswego 7, Oneonta 5 (7 inn.)

Oswego rallied from down five, to score seven unanswered runs in this contest.

Matt Capobianco drove in the game tying fifth run with a single down the left field line, which brought home John Barnes. The Kings Park native had a big game, earning two hits and an RBI while also scoring two runs.

Later on in the sixth inning, Dan Saccocio collected a base hit to drive in Capobianco. The senior ended up scoring on an error to collect the final run. Saccocio tallied three hits and scored three runs in the game.

Myles Kutscher and Wes Randall both had notable performances. The sophomores each collected a hit and an RBI in the game.

Pat Brown was crucial for the Lakers in holding Oneonta down and maintaining the lead. Brown pitched 3.1 innings in relief and collected four strikeouts. The senior earned his first win of the season allowing just one hit.

Mickey Putillo shut the door on Oneonta in the seventh, earning his fourth save of the season. Putillo pitched one inning and struck out one batter.

 

Game Two: Oneonta 6, Oswego 2 (9 inn)

Saccocio got the Lakers started early in the second game. He started it off with a single the left field before stealing second. Saccocio would advance to third on a Randall groundout.

Eric Hamilton skied a sacrifice fly to deep left field to drive in Saccocio for Oswego's first run. Hamilton was also responsible for the Lakers second run; he slapped another ball to left for a sacrifice fly to score Saccocio.

Oswego collected seven hits in the contest including three doubles and a triple. Capobianco, Brian Hamilton and Kyle Simmons were responsible for the two-baggers; Kutscher had the games triple.

Tim Cronin was tagged for three earned runs in his first loss of the season. The sophomore pitched strong throughout and rung up eight batters over the course of eight innings.

The Lakers will return to play at home on Tuesday against St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.
