Hamilton Homers In DH Loss to No. 1 Cortland

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego State baseball team dropped two close contests, 3-1 and 5-1, with the No. 1 ranked Cortland Red Dragons Tuesday afternoon. The two losses wrap up conference play and the Lakers fall to 23-8 overall and 14-4 in the conference.

Game One: Cortland 3, Oswego 1 (7 inn.)

The Lakers got men on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, to threaten the number one team in the nation, before hitting into a game-ending triple play.

Brendyn Karinchak took the mound for Oswego and pitched a strong seven innings in the loss. He struck out five Red Dragon batters and allowed just one earned run to lower his ERA to 1.70.

Eric Hamilton got the Lakers on the board in the fourth inning with a home run to left field. The sophomore recorded his first homer of the season and RBI number 32 with the long ball.

Myles Kutscher and Kyle Simmons both recorded a hit in the contest, while Jordan Giller earned a walk.

Game Two: Cortland 5, Oswego 1 (9 inn.)

In the fifth inning, Kyle Simmons got on base via a fielder's choice and was moved over to third on a single by Dan Saccocio. During the next at-bat, Saccocio got himself into, and out of, a rundown between first and second, which allowed Simmons enough time to steal home.

Oswego found themselves threatening Cortland several times throughout the contest, but could not convert. Five Lakers were stranded on base in the second game.

Saccocio and John Rauseo recorded the Lakers three hits and combined to go 3-for-6 with a walk in the second game.

Robert Donnelly pitched for the Lakers in this game and took a tough loss despite allowed zero earned runs. The freshman's ERA fell to a starter-best 1.32. He recorded two strikeouts in 6.1 innings on the bump.

Oswego will look to build on the 23 votes they received for top-25 voting as they play host to Ithaca College on Thursday at 4 p.m.
