GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team continued its season with a pair of conference games at Geneseo, dropping both contests by a score of 11-3 to the Knights. With the losses, the Lakers are now 3-7 on the season and 1-3 in SUNYAC action.
GAME ONE – GENESEO 11, OSWEGO 3 (5 inn.):
Oswego got off to a hot start, scoring three runs in the top of the first to gain control early. The momentum did not last, however, as Geneseo answered with three of its own in the bottom of the opening frame. Both teams went scoreless over the next two innings before the Knights notched two in the fourth and six in the fifth to end the game.
Lisa O'Callaghan only allowed four earned runs in the outing while scattering six hits and striking out one in the loss.
At the plate,
Melanie Klauser went 2-for-3 with a run scored while
Ashley Lyman had one hit that drove in a pair of teammates. O'Callaghan and
Tori Trovato each finished with a hit, with Trovato scoring once, as did centerfielder
Katie Heselden.
GAME TWO – GENESEO 11, OSWEGO 3 (6 inn.):
In the nightcap, Oswego found itself down 1-0 after the first inning but fought back to recapture the advantage. The Lakers tallied two runs in the second inning and another in the third. After a scoreless fourth frame, Geneseo again got hot late, registering five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to collect the victory.
Seven different Lakers recorded hits in the game, all finishing with one apiece.
Alexandra Mckay led the way with two RBI and a run scored while Lyman crossed the plate once while driving in another teammate. Also having a hit and a run scored was O'Callaghan. Rounding out those Lakers with a hit were Heselden, Klauser,
Dana Taglioni and
Noelle White.
Oswego will return to action at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels to Utica College for a nonconference doubleheader.
