FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team fell 11-10 to nationally-ranked Fredonia Friday evening on the road. With the loss, the team is now 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Fredonia, ranked 19th in the latest IWLCA poll, improves to 8-2, 2-1.
The Lakers came out firing, taking a commanding 7-1 lead just 15 minutes into the game. The offensive front was led by
Mackenzie Kjerstad who scored two of the seven. Fredonia chipped away but Oswego was able to take an 8-5 lead into half time.
It was a different story in the second half though, as the Blue Devils were able to close the gap and the game become a back-and-forth battle. Oswego retained its lead for the first 18 minutes of the second, but Fredonia clawed its way back, scoring six-straight to give them an 11-9 lead with four minutes left. Oswego would score one more to narrow the Blue Devil lead to one with one minute left, but were unable to nab a tying goal.
Kjerstad led all Lakers scoring four on the day.
Emily Lange notched multiple goals as well, netting two on the day.
Angela Ponto minded the net for Oswego, recording 13 saves.
Women's lacrosse will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as it plays host to the Geneseo Knights.
