Cronin's One-Hit Gem Leads Oswego to Victory

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. -- Tim Cronin's masterful pitching performance led the Oswego State baseball team to a 10-0 victory over the New Paltz Hawks on Sunday at Cantine Field. The Lakers (16-4) remain undefeated in conference play, improving to 9-0.

Cronin earned his third win of the year after only allowing one hit and striking out four Hawks. The sophomore kept New Paltz hitless through 6.2 innings. His ERA fell to 1.67, a low amongst starters, after allowing no runs on the afternoon.

Dylan Kohlman and Brandon Schultzkie combined to finish off the last inning and two-thirds; neither allowed a hit and Schultzkie struck out two batters.

Eric Hamilton got Oswego on the board early with an RBI ground out in the first, driving in Dan Saccocio. Saccocio walked, stole second and moved over to third on a Wes Randall groundout.

Hamilton collected another hit later in the game and drove in another run. Saccocio and Randall both added a hit as well.

The Lakers collected multiple runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings to stretch the lead.

Jordan Giller and Matt Capobianco were big for Oswego in the late innings. Giller brought home Myles Kutscher with an RBI single before coming around to score. In the next inning, Giller popped a sacrifice fly to center to score Randall.

In the eighth, Matt Capobianco hit a base knock up the middle to drive in Robert Donnelly and Giller. Capobianco finished with three hits and three RBI. Donnelly scored three runs and collected a hit.

John Barnes and Kyle Liner both collected an RBI in the game.

Oswego will next head to Cortland to face the nationally-ranked Red Dragons in a single contest on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m.
