Oswego, N.Y. -- The Oswego State volleyball team defeated Wells College by a score of 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13) in their season opener. The win marks four-straight season the Lakers have begun their season victorious.
Oswego accumulated 24 kills in the game, led by sophomore outside hitter
Jessica Long who had six. The Laker offense was well balanced though as five other players recorded kills, including
Ariel Murawski,
Megan Russell, and
Alison Sullivan who each had four.
The defense was also on point for the Lakers as they combined for 28 digs. Senior libero
Rachael Ruggaber and
Lauren Edwards led the team with 8 digs apiece.
Edwards also helped the team with her service game. In the third set, with Oswego leading just 11-10, the junior setter rattled off 10 straight points on serve, putting the game away for her team.
The Lakers will take the court next when they travel to Pennsylvania for the University of Scranton tournament where they will face the host Royals in their first game on September 4 at 2:30 p.m.
