Lakers Gets First Win in SUNYAC Opener

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team opened the SUNYAC slate with a come-from-behind 4-3 win at Brockport on Friday evening at Bob Boozer Field. Oswego's victory is its first of the campaign, improving to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference while the Golden Eagles drop to 0-6, 0-1.

Trailing 3-1 almost one-third of the way through the second half, the Lakers got a jolt at 46:36 when Andrea Kelly scored her first collegiate goal off a deflection. The sophomore was not done, however, scoring the equalizer less than 15 minutes later off a pass from senior Emily Lange.

Lange's classmate, Lisa O'Callaghan, would not let Kelly's efforts go to waste, notching her third goal of the season just 46 seconds later, giving Oswego its first lead of the game and the eventual game-winning tally.

Freshman Alex Theisen got the start in net for the Lakers, playing the opening 26:48. Theisen stopped two shots and allowed two goals. She was then relieved by senior Grace Lombardi, who held down the position for the remainder of the contest, stopping one shot while earning the win.

Oswego edged the Golden Eagles in a couple of statistical categories, including penalty corners (9-7) and shots-on-goal (9-6).

The Lakers will now get nearly a week off before its next tilt, hosting league-foe New Paltz at 5 p.m. on Friday at Laker Turf Stardium.
