POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball split its two matches Tuesday evening at the Potsdam Triangular pushing the team's record to 11-5 on the year.
In the first match of the day, Oswego found itself down early against the host bears, as it dropped the first set 25-18. The Lakers made adjustments though and were able to take the second set 25-21. The momentum continued to roll as the next two sets were taking confidently 25-13, 25-18.
Coming off her SUNYAC Player of the Week performance from last week, junior
Megan Russell once again led the team in kills with 10. Following closely behind her were
Ariel Murawski and
Kelsey Dillon, who each racked up nine.
Setting duties were split between
Lauren Edwards and
Lindsey Champitto with the two accumulating 25 and 15, respectively.
Defensively, libero
Rachael Ruggaber dug 19 balls, with
Kim Cassa helping out with 18 for herself.
Oswego came out of the gates quickly in the second match of the day against the Saints, winning 25-18. The Lakers would drop the second, but then take the lead once again as the team won its third set 25-23. The match would go the distance but the Lakers would eventually fall in the final two sets 25-14, 15-9.
Russell, Dillon and Murawski once again led the charge offensively recording 12, 11 and 11 kills, respectively. Russell would also tag on six total blocks, giving her a total of 11 on the day.
Manning the backline was Ruggaber again who ended the match with 17 digs, followed by setter
Lauren Edwards who racked up a 16.
Volleyball will return to the court on Friday as the team starts its SUNYAC play with the Pool Play at Oneonta. The Lakers will begin with Cortland at 5 p.m. and then Oneonta and Brockport the following day.
