Lakers Suffer First Conference Loss At Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team fell on the road—7-0—to the Cortland Red Dragons on Wednesday afternoon. It now stands at 7-2 overall and suffers its first conference loss of the season (2-1). Cortland improves to 9-3 and stays unscathed at 4-0 in the SUNYAC.

Cortland came out of the gates quickly, scoring more of its goals in the opening half. Sarita Charap, fresh off a second SUNYAC Defensive Field Hockey Athlete of the Week honor this season, recorded 13 saves in the contest. The junior has now collected 58 goal-stops on the season in over 600 minutes in the net.

Oswego took four shots throughout the game, which came off the sticks of Jordan Sheehy, Monica Harvey, Corinne Kimmelman and Julia Calandra. The latter's shot was on-goal in the opening minutes of action, but was saved by the goalkeeper.

The Laker attack was even with two of its four shots coming in each half. Oswego also earned two penalty corners apiece in the first and second stanzas.

Field hockey returns to action for a home conference tilt against the Geneseo Knights at 1 p.m. on Saturday. This season, the Lakers are undefeated (6-0) at Laker Turf Stadium.
