OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team was unable to score in a 5-0 loss to Geneseo at home on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, the Lakers honored its senior class, which includes
Jenna Jevons,
Grace Rinaldi,
Corinne Kimmelman and
Julia Calandra.
With the defeat, Oswego drops to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC while the Knights improve to 6-8, 4-2.
Geneseo did all of its damage in the opening stanza, scoring each of the game's goals between 2:26 and 30:46 of the first half. Trailing 3-0 with 13 minutes remaining in that period, Oswego had two of its best chances. Calandra lifted a ball towards the crossbar from just inside the arc, but a Knights defender swatted the ball down right before it entered the net. The Lakers had a rebound opportunity, but again a Geneseo defender stifled the chance.
Sarita Charap made seven saves on the afternoon, including five in a scoreless second half.
As a team, Oswego was just four shy of Geneseo in shots-on-goal (12-8) and penalty corners (12-8).
The Lakers will host a nonconference matchup for their next contest when Hartwick College comes to Laker Turf Stadium for a 4 p.m. tilt on Wednesday.
