NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team dropped its contest to New Paltz, 6-0 on Friday evening. Oswego falls to 7-5 and 2-3 in the SUNYAC, while New Paltz improves to 9-5 and 5-0 in the conference.
New Paltz opened up the game scoring a couple of times in the first five minutes and continued to score five times in the opening stanza. The Lakers were finally able to slow the Hawks down and kept the opposing team to just one goal in the second half.
Katie Reynolds was one of three Lakers to tally a shot during the contest. In the 30
th minute, Reynolds took the ball inside the arc and fired on goal, but it was saved by the goalie. Joining her was
Julia Calandra, who took two shots with one on-target. Both of the latter's attempts came in the second half within a minute of the other.
Kendra Walker was the final Oswego player to collect a shot-on-goal, which came 21
st minute.
In the net,
Sarita Charap recorded the first 35 minutes of the contest and made three saves. Meanwhile,
Mary Mattice played the entire second half, recording two saves.
Oswego returns to the field at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a game at Oneonta. The Lakers and Red Dragons are both vying for the final playoff spot in the conference, which will be decided with the result of the contest.
