ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team dropped a playoff-deciding game—1-0 in overtime—to the host Oneonta Red Dragons. With the loss, the Lakers are no longer eligible for the SUNYAC Championship and finish their conference slate at 2-4. Overall, Oswego is now 7-6 and with two games remaining is looking for its eighth win and best finish since 1984. Oneonta improves to 4-10 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Oswego led by
Monica Harvey jumped out in front in this game as the junior tallied her fifth goal of the season. She dribbled the ball in from outside the arc and beat the goalie who was returning back to the goal area. Harvey is now second on the team in points (12) and goals (5).
Jordan Sheehy (1) and
Kendra Walker (2) were the only other Lakers, aside from Harvey, to take shots-on-goal in the contest.
The Lakers were anchored by
Sarita Charap, who played all 73:40 in goal. Charap tied her season-high saves tally with 18 in this game.
Field hockey will return to the field at 4 p.m. on Tuesday for a nonconference game versus St. John Fisher.
