Field Hockey Endures Tough Bout with Fisher

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team ran into one of the nation's hottest teams on Tuesday at home, as St. John Fisher College defeats the Lakers 8-1 at Laker Turf Stadium. Oswego is now 7-7 on the year while the Cardinals – currently on a 14-game win streak – improves to 15-2.

Fisher was able to score the contest's first seven goals before Katie Reynolds notched a tally inside of 10 minutes remaining in regulation. It was the sophomore's fourth goal of the campaign.

Sarita Charap started the game in goal for the Lakers, playing 41:26 with four saves. Mary Mattice relieved her junior teammate, racking up five stops in over 28 minutes of action. Both goalies allowed four goals on the afternoon.

One of Oswego best opportunities came in the opening stanza while trailing by just three. Some nifty passing inside the arc pulled the Cardinal goalie out of position. As a pass was being deflected into the net, a Fisher defender was able to stop the ball directly on the goal line and clear it to erase the Laker chance to pull the margin to within two.

Oswego will wrap its season in Canton, N.Y. at 4 p.m. on Friday when it travels to St. Lawrence University for a nonconference tilt. With a win, the Lakers would have the most victories in a single-season in over 30 years. The 1984 squad had 13 victories – which is still the program record – while six teams have reached the seven-win plateau since then, including this year's Lakers.
