OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team defeated the Cortland Red Dragons 2-1 on Saturday evening. No. 10 Oswego improves to 5-0-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in the ECACW, while Cortland falls to 0-3-0 overall and in the conference.
 
Two goals off of the stick of Jacquelin White in the third period led the Lakers to the victory. White tallied her team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season to lead the comeback win.
 
Almost immediately after Cortland took the lead 1-0, Ja. White scored for the Lakers to tie it up at 1-1. With just under 19 minutes remaining, Olivia Ellis passed the puck off to Alexa Aramburu who directed it to White. The second tally came on a put-back shot off a save by the goalie. The puck fell from the glove to the ice, where Ja. White caught sight and poked it through for the score. Kate Randazzo and Erika Truschke were credited with assists on the play.
 
Oswego was by far the more aggressive team during the contest, taking more shots and playing physical on the defense. The Lakers players tallied up 27 shots through the first two periods alone, including seven in the final minutes of the second. The team would finish with 44 attempts on the goal. Ja. White (8), Ellis (5), Randazzo (4), Victoria Rankin (4) and Andrea Noss (4) led the way in shots taken.
 
In goal, Mariah Madrigal played nearly the entire game to earn the win and improve to 3-0. She stopped 11 shots by Cortland and maintained a .917 save percentage throughout.
 
Oswego will return to the ice at 3 p.m. on Sunday for the finale of this two-game set with the Red Dragons.
