Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

No. 1 Plattsburgh Hands No. 8/9 Oswego First Loss

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 8/9 Oswego State women's ice hockey team suffered its first loss of the season 7-1 at unanimous No. 1 and defending national champion Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon in the Ronald B. Stafford Arena. Oswego is now 6-1 overall and 4-1 in ECAC Women's West action while the Cardinals stay perfect at 6-0, 5-0.

Senior Kendall Appelbaum scored that Lakers' lone goal in the contest. Her goal came in unassisted fashion at the 8:39 mark of the final period.

Oswego's penalty kill was solid in the tilt, stopping Plattsburgh on four of its five power-play opportunities. The Lakers did have three extra-skater chances of their own but was unable to capitalize on any of the occasions.

Junior Mariah Madrigal earned the start between the pipes, making 23 saves in two periods of action. Freshman Amber Samonek tagged in for the final 20 minutes, stopping seven Plattsburgh chances while allowing just one goal.

Oswego and Plattsburgh will faceoff again on Sunday in the North Country, with puck drop slated for 3 p.m.
