OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team fell to the Fredonia Blue Devils 75-64 on Friday evening. Oswego is now 1-7 on the year and 0-3 in the conference, while Fredonia improves to 7-1 and 3-0 in the conference.
Oswego jumped out to an early lead in this contest, starting the game on an 11-5 run, before ending the first quarter with the 18-15 advantage. The Lakers were unable though to keep up with the Blue Devils the rest of the way, despite fighting back multiple times.
Rachael Windhausen scored an early 10 points for the Lakers in the first half by nailing all four of her attempts from the field and hitting a couple from the charity stripe. She was joined by Ameele, who tallied nine in the first half, before notching five more in the third and fourth periods to total 14.
Heather Hebert started out the contest slow, but turned it on to lead the Oswego surge. After scoring just three in the beginning two stanzas, the senior went 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the field. Her line also includes one from behind the arc, which rounded out her stats of 21 points. She also cleared seven boards.
Other offensive firepower came from
Mary Mazzella, who had 10 points including a couple of late baskets. Windhausen was the other Laker to complete the contest with double-digit points (12).
Women's basketball returns to action on Saturday afternoon for a conference battle with Buffalo State, beginning at 4 p.m.
